Fifteen years later with less than fifteen laps to go, Gosek had a lead of over three seconds evaporate with his fuel and he was in the pits when the checkered flag flew for Greg Furlong who collected his record tying sixth Budweiser International Classic victory. 100_0978.jpgProving that the fastest car does not always win, Greg Furlong claimed his third Mr Supermodified crown last night.  Furlong who started 11th held off a hard charging Bobby Bond the last few laps to pick up the check for $10,000.  In Victory lane Greg gave credit to his crew who earlier had to fix a broken power steering pump and through a strange turn of events found himself in victory lane for the second time in 2007.  Greg thought his biggest competition would be the Booth 61 and Joe Gosek.  Both would meet with problems and neither was around at the finish. At the start of the 50 lap event Greg made his way to the front and quickly moved into second behind Otto Sitterly.  A lap 19 restart gave Greg the chance to move into the lead.  Once out front Greg was never really able to get away but also was not ever under serious pressure.  Greg noted he took his time with lapped cars and was being careful late in the race.  With a DNF from Mike Barnes Greg also increased his point lead to 59 with two races left as Greg looks for his 4th Track Championship!

Michael Barnes is slowly showing that his rapid climb through the divisions of cars at the Oswego Speedway is with good cause. Barnes picked up his second consecutive win in the Novelis Supermodified division on Alliance Bank and AT&T Independence Weekend.

Joe Gosek was the man to beat for the first half of the Novelis Supermodified 50 lap feature as he was looking for win number three on the 2007 season at Oswego. Gosek was black flagged with a commanding lead around the midpoint of the race with a leaking valve cover gasket. Barnes inherited the lead at that point but had to out-duel veteran Greg Furlong through traffic over the final eleven laps of the race to pick up his second win of the season. Otto Sitterly picked up his second consecutive podium finish with another third place run. After some early season accidents, Sitterly seems to be getting the handle on his new Hawk Chassis. Shawn Muldoon ran a great race with his new Hawk Chassis, picking up fourth place in just his second time out with the car. Randy Ritskes continued his mastery with one of the oldest chassis’ in the field as he brought the Rayvals #95 home in fifth place.

It was an Opening Day to remember at the Oswego Speedway as a last lap pass for the win occurred for only the second time ever in the Novelis Supermodified division as Joe Gosek in the #00 passed race leader Randy Ritskes in the Rayvals #95 for the win.  On Opening Day 1994, Bentley Warren in the Landmark Video #29 edged past Mike Muldoon in his #80 to get the other Opening Day last lap win at Oswego. Oddly enough, the car that Ritskes finished in second with was originally a Mike Muldoon chassis.

The Race of Champions Modifieds got the action started as they ran the Parts Plus 75 to start the afternoon on Coca Cola Kick-Off day. Matt Hirscman gained a bit of revenge on the track that he lost a hotly contested Race of Champions event at last September. Hirshman came across the line followed by Billy Putney, Lee Sherwood, Zane Zeiner and Earl Paules.

The newly named PathFinder Bank SBS Racing Series saw a variety of surprises all day long. In Heat race action, Mike Bond in the new Solazzo #26, put it into Victory Lane
