A week after running the ISMA Opener, we were anxious to get back on the track with the unwinged 72 to see what the effects of the rule changes would be.

Hey everyone, I know its been a while, but as we get more into the racing season, updates wil be at least twice a week. This past week was a trying one, as tiny little problems caused us to have a subpar weekend. A brake problem was the major pain as the they were never right all weekend. We actually made the top 4 in the heat, started 11th and never was in contention. We eventually called it a weekend on lap 25 and will regroup for this weekend. I will have more tomorrow.

I was really looking forward to getting things going on Sunday for my first race, and I think our team had everyone ready to go when the command was given to fire the engines. After fellow Riley Chassis runner Pablo Donoso crashed in morning practice, the starting field was cut down to 11 of these new USAC Silver Crown cars. This pushed me up to the 8th starting spot right behind longtime USAC driver Dave Darland.
USAC did look at a few cars pretty hard over the weekend and didn't like some of what they were seeing. USAC also had to hand out different wheel nuts on Saturday because the angles on the old ones were wrong.
By looking at the cars, you would think they have alot of downforce, but that is not really the case. These cars still like to dance around underneath power and you can control them with the gas. The main thing I kept trying to get used to was the way the driver sits in a USAC Silver Crown car compared to a Supermodified. I sit very upright over th ...

We unloaded the car on Friday morning for our first ever track time with the new Riley Chassis. The morning practice was more shaking down the car and fixing some minor problems and getting used to the car. At one point early in practice, we posted the 2nd fastest time, but the otehrs soon caught up. For my first time in the car, things felt pretty good, but I really needed more track time.
Today, we picked up some good speed from time we unloaded the car. We were still somewhat concerned about the new wheel and tire combinations for the USAC Silver Crown cars, and a few drivers crashed their primary cars searching for more speed. Right now we just have the one complete car, so we felt we should stay consistent but safe. I was running with Dave Steele and Bryan Tyler in practice, andcould close in on them if I wanted to.
I was pretty dissapointed with Qualifying, as we dropped nearly 3 tenths from our fastest time in practice prior to that. Not sure if the tire ...
